Hello Friend,
I hope this letter finds you doing well. The first thing I want to do is to say a heartfelt
"THANK YOU". Thank you for your past support and for the opportunity to serve as your State Senator district 31
for the past 16 years. This has truly been a wonderful experience and I have tried my best to serve with honor and dignity
in this high office. My service would not be possible without your prayers and your support and I am most grateful. These
past 16 years have been challenging for Mississippi. We have had our low points financially, we have suffered the worst natural
disaster in America's history, and we have had other significant challenges.
Through
it all, however, the resolve of our people has determined our bright future. A future I am convinced will bring better days
to all of us in this great state. I want to continue to work for your future. In the years since becoming your Senator,
we have located both Nissan and Toyota automobile manufacturing plants in Mississippi. We are fortunate in District 31 to
have plants like Unipres in Forest to service suppliers to the automobile industry. The work at Raytheon in Forest
also continues top provide quality products for the United States and good paying jobs to our family, friends and neighbors.
La-Z-Boy in Newton has grown its workforce recently by nearly 150, providing more jobs in the area. The area in Lauderdale
County continues to grow, with new industries, new businesses and new cultural opportunities.
All of the counties I represent have seen significant change for the better in the past 16 years and I am proud to have played
a part in those positive changes. Now is not the time to change direction. When the towns and cities of Lake, Hickory,
Union, Chunky, Newton, Decatur, Forest, Meridian, and Marion and counties of Newton, Lauderdale and Scott call, I have been
there to respond with assistance in obtaining police cars, water and sewer grants, emergency funds for water supplies, funds
for job training, money to repair existing industries, money to help expand and recruit new industries, fire department grants,
housing assistance grants, local and private legislation and many local needs. I am proud that in that position of leadership
I hold, I can assist these communities when they need help.
I am prouder still,
that when individuals call with a need, I am, many times able to get them the help they need from state agencies. I can't
always get the the answer people want, but I always try to assist those who need it. Hundreds, even thousands of people have
called and I have been there to do all I can to try and help. That part of my job as your State Senator is the most meaningful....to
know I was able to help someone in need. Now is not the time to change direction.
Again,
thank you for your assistance and thank you in advance for placing your faith in me as State Senator District 31. I am proud
to be your strong voice in Jackson!
Respectfully,
Terry C. Burton
